That evening, lanterns lit up one by one beneath the trees.

Children looked up and reached out, busy choosing lantern riddles and eager to tell the adults beside them: "I know this one!"

We prepared a few simple Mid-Autumn games, but what lingers in memory are the moments of crafting, guessing, and laughing together.

One Lantern, Two Busy Pairs of Hands

By the lantern-making table, someone was always stopping by.

Little hands tinkered with materials while adults leaned in to help. It didn’t matter whether it was done quickly or slowly; when a child held up their handmade lantern, the pride in their eyes said it all.

Beneath the Lanterns, Countless Joys

Lantern riddles hung beside the lanterns as children tilted their heads to search for clues. Some whispered the questions aloud, some pulled their parents aside to discuss answers, and others couldn't wait to raise their hands.

During the lyric guessing game, as soon as a familiar melody began to play, everyone couldn't help but sing along with the next line. There was laughter when answering correctly, and just as much laughter when missing the guess.

The ring toss area was treated with a bit more seriousness: aim carefully, toss, and see where the ring lands. Pitch-pot (Touhu) also drew children taking turns to try. Joy was tucked inside that phrase, "Let me try one more time!", and in the cheers of encouragement from the adults beside them.

Capturing This Evening in Photos

Tired from playing, everyone returned to their tables for a bite to eat and a quick chat, then gathered under the lanterns for a group photo.

In the photos, some smiled brightly, some quietly snuggled beside family; some held up freshly made lanterns, while others still couldn't bear to put down their little props.

These natural expressions are exactly the Mid-Autumn Festival we wanted to preserve.

Lanterns will be put away, and games will come to an end. But what children remember might be someone who sat with them to make a lantern, listened intently as they guessed a riddle, or held their hand through the lively night.
